Joel began his career at MSG while he was in college as an intern for our very own Stan Fischler. He currently writes a weekly column for MSG.com as well as post-game analysis on Channel 9’s home broadcast of Yankee games.
From 1984-88 Joel served tenures as the college football and college basketball editor at United Press International along with covering the NFL, Major League Baseball and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1989, he began at the New York Post and served as their Yankee beat reporter until 1995. Since 1996, Joel has served as the Post’s baseball columnist. In addition, he has covered three Olympics for the Post: Atlanta, Nagano and Sydney.
Joel was chairman of the New York chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America from 1997-98 after serving as vice chairman the previous two years. Also, he has written freelance articles for many publications, including ESPN Magazine, Sports Illustrated for Kids and New York Magazine. His book, Birth of a Dynasty, Behind the Pinstripes with the 1996 Yankees, was published in 2006 and tells the inside story of how those championship Yankees were built and won.
Joel was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from NYU with a BA in journalism. He now resides in New Rochelle with his wife Jillian.
