Joe Micheletti
New York Rangers Television Analyst

Joe Micheletti was named as the New York Rangers TV analyst in September of 2006, after spending 8 years serving in the same capacity for the New York Islanders on FSNY. Michelietti also serves as an expert analyst for NBC and their coverage of the NHL.

Micheletti broke into broadcasting in 1985 as part of the St. Louis Blues radio team. He held that position with KMOX-AM radio for two years before he joined the Blues in 1987 as an assistant coach. After spending three years behind the bench, Joe returned to broadcasting in 1991 with KMSP-TV in Minnesota to serve as color commentator for the Minnesota North Stars. He then returned to St. Louis, this time as the TV analyst for the Blues for KPLR-TV and Fox Sports Net Midwest.

As Micheletti’s broadcasting talents developed, so did the demand for his services. In 1994, he worked as an analyst for the Olympic Games on TNT and PRIME Sports, on ABC’s NHL “Game of the Week,” and on ESPN and ESPN2’s NHL coverage. A year later, when FOX obtained the rights to broadcast NHL games, he began serving as an analyst for their national coverage. Micheletti held this position through 1998-99, when FOX’s contract with the NHL ended. In 1996, he began hosting a radio talk show called “Talkin’ Hockey with Joe Micheletti” on KFNS-AM radio. In 1998, he served as an analyst for the Olympic Games for CBS-TV, TNT and CBS Radio and hosted the weekly hockey show “Face Off” for FOX Sports Net Midwest.

Micheletti grew up in Hibbing, MN, where he started playing hockey at the age of four on a backyard rink. A defenseman, he won a state high school hockey championship with Hibbing High School in 1973 and was a member of the 1974 and 1976 NCAA National Champion University of Minnesota Golden Gophers squad. In 1977, Micheletti was named captain of the team.

That same year, he was drafted by both the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL and the Calgary Cowboys of the World Hockey Association. Micheletti spent one season with Calgary before the franchise folded. He then moved to Edmonton (a member of the WHA at the time) and was a teammate of up-and-coming star Wayne Gretzky on the Oilers. When the WHA teams were absorbed into the NHL in 1979, Micheletti went to St. Louis and played three years for the Blues, helping the team to a Smythe Division title in 1980-81. In 1982, he played for the Colorado Rockies (now the New Jersey Devils) and then spent a season in Austria before retiring from hockey in 1983 and settling in St. Louis, where he took a job as a broker with E.F. Hutton as an investment broker. He moved on to become an associate VP at Dean Witter from 1990-92, and an associate VP at A.G. Edward & Sons, Inc., from 1992-1998.

Micheletti currently resides in Westchester, NY, with his wife Kathy and their children Adam and Allison.
