Deb Placey
New York Islanders Pre & Post Game Host
Since joining MSG in August of 1995, Deb Placey has become an integral part of both MSG and FSNY, serving in a variety of roles. Since 2002, Deb has served as Pregame and Postgame host of the New York Islanders coverage on FSNY. And over the past year, she has also been one of the anchors for MSG's signature daily sports and entertainment show "MSG, NY." She recently hosted MSG's special NBA Draft coverage as well.
In addition to her work for MSG and FSN NY, Deb serves as an anchor and reporter for WNBC-TV in the sports department, as well as an anchor for NBA-TV.
Prior to joining MSG, Placey worked on various projects for ESPN. While working there she served as a reporter and an anchor, providing scores, highlights and updates for ESPN-produced live events, including college basketball, hockey and college football. Previously, Placey also hosted a talk show on WFAN.
Placey, a St. Louis native, attended the University of Arizona, graduating with a degree in journalism. She began her career shortly thereafter as a production assistant behind the camera for ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
Deb's first job in front of the camera was two years later when she went to WSIL-TV, the ABC affiliate in Marion, Illinois, as a news reporter. She got her first chance to work sports when she filled in for the weekend sportscaster for a two-week stint. During those two weekends doing sports at WSIL, she was noticed and soon moved to KWWL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Waterloo, Iowa to serve as the weekend sports anchor.
Placey's next move was to WPRI-TV, the ABC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island, as weekend sports anchor, and from there moved on to WSVN-TV, the FOX affiliate in Miami, Florida, in the same capacity. She remained in Miami until she joined ESPN.
Over the years, Placey has given back to her community as much as possible through donating her time to area charities and children’s organizations. “Big Brothers/Big Sisters”, “Bears 4 Kids”, and the “Kings Bay Boys Club” have all been the recipients of her efforts. She is also on the board of the MS Society of Connecticut, and a member of the Junior League.
In addition to her successful broadcasting career, Placey is thriving on the homefront as well, in her role as a mother. She is an avid tennis player and golfer, and lives with her husband Edward, daughters Madeline and Caroline in Southport, Connecticut. Sports are in the family, as Edward is a coordinating producer at ESPN.
